The Ridiculous Roadshow mask
Barney Bubbles first produced the the so-called Ridiculous Mask as an analogue interactive element of music press advertising to promote the Ridiculous Roadshow, Hawkwind’s tour of the UK in the winter of 1973-4.
The ad was a prime example of the designer’s skill in engaging directly with music fans; gig attendees were invited to glue the mask onto card, cut it out, colour it in and attach string so that it could be worn to performances.
Later in 1974 the mask resurfaced in black and gold as both sides of the 7in sleeve for the German release of Hawkwind single You’d Better Believe It/Paradox.
And now the design in that colourway is available across a range of apparel and even a mug from the new Barney Bubbles online shop. Click here.
